Sitting here in front of the computer, not tired enough to go to bed, even though I really should. So, a bit of a ramble, since I haven't done one of these (or anything else :P 'round here recently).

Holy crap, I podficced again for the first time in ages! :)   (Well, I finished editing, anyway.  I find it hard to record this time of year... the spring weather seems to make my already kinda nasally/stuffy-nose-sounding voice extra problematic... this podfic was actually recorded last fall.)

ANYWAY.... da-da-da-da!  (Trumpets!)

No Army at My Back, a gen Suikoden story by Tenshi no Korin.  Tremendously fun (with a smidgen of whump) backstory that I consider TOTALLY canon regarding how Flik met Odessa and Viktor.

Tenshi no Korin was literally the SECOND person I asked permission to podfic from back in 2010 and I kept not-getting-around to recording somehow for all these years.  It was mostly a case where my original 2010 "pre-read" recording seemed pretty damn PERFECT to me, but the audio quality was too crappy to make it the "final" product, but then when I'd try to re-read and capture the same "magic", it kept coming out less good.

Hardest phrase to speak in this story:  "Deposited it into"
My favorite phrase in this story:  "And Flik, coiled like a dwarvish clockwork, sprung."

BBCA wrapped up Season 1 of "The Musketeers" the other night, and ok, yeah, love it! Great teamminess, and Aramis & Porthos are frickin' adorable.

Gah, still alive.  I've been having a pretty miserable time at work the last six months or so, and my life outside of work is suffering for it.  ^_^

I did have a fun NYC trip back in April.  I was mainly there to see Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and I got in Once, the Musical too.  It was my first encounter with Once... I hadn't seen the movie, and the musical hadn't been on my radar, either.  I really enjoyed it!  I don't find most of the songs to be very interesting outside the context of the show (besides Falling Slowly, of course) but the show as a whole has a "greater than the sum of its parts" thing going.  The characters and music and story combined made for a great evening out. :)  Hedwig with NPH skyrocketed pretty quickly to one of my most memorable theater experiences ever.  So. Much. Awesome.  I *do* know this show pretty well, but had never seen it live.  The energy level NPH has to bring to it for every show (and double-headers at 7:00 and 10:00 some nights) is awe-inspiring.

In other news, I've been enjoying the pick-for-me community on livejournal the last few months.  I've been in one of those phases you get in sometimes (or I do, anyway) where I stare at the old TBR shelf before every new read, feeling like picking the next book is somehow the hardest choice ever.  My TBR pile isn't the most diverse one in existence (I read almost exclusively secondary-world fantasies) but it's still been neat to have someone else make the decision for me, for a change.   All three times, it's been a moment of "Oh, that's not what I would have gone with."  followed by "Oh, that'll be a nice change of pace.  Yay!"  :)

Just a quick note and plug for the fourth Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology posted as part of halfamoon.    Ten hours of bite-size podfics with great variety of fandoms and readers.

My contribution was Each One for Her Own, by [personal profile] medie ... lovely Aisha-centric fic in "The Losers" fandom.

This fic is a remix of another story that I'd like to record, so for symmetry, I'll probably give "Each One..." a future "standalone" release with its own cover-art and stuff once its sister-story is ready, too.

Periodic "I'm still around" post.

Winter's been kicking my butt this year. We haven't gotten too many big snows, but man, the cold is draining. All I want to do at the end of every. single. work day is curl up under piles of blankets and nap. I don't usually get into this state until well into February, and it's been like that since the second week of January this year. So, yeah, not much going on in real-life.

Fandom-wise, network TV has actually been pretty good to me lately. Some lovely woobie-ness happening.

Just some random musing...

I've been having a period of going back and revisiting old favorite Weiss Kreuz fics (of which I am massively depressed to see how few have migrated to AO3). And I'm sitting here wishing that someone, somewhere had compiled a list of "Best Ken Hidaka-centric fics" so I could have somewhere central other than my own, rather haphazard bookmarking to use as a resource.

Then *THAT* made me think of the Death Dogs site in Mag7-land, and I clicked over there... and realized that it's approaching the ten-year mark since that site was last updated, and isn't that a shame, that the semi-official "quality fic" resource for Mag7 fandom is missing out on a whole decade of great fic, and shouldn't someone, somewhere compile a "Death Dogs, Mark II"?

Just feeling nostalgic for old-school rec sites, I guess. I wonder if there's still a place for this sort of thing - as a resource for new fans or a quick reference for older ones...

I wonder what the ideal format for lists like these would be nowadays? A simple delicious account? A reccing journal on LJ/DW? Old-school standalone web-page? Tumblr? (No. Tumblr's too transitive, imo... Even with good tagging, it seems so impossible to organize posts in a clean way there.)

New podfic... Believer, by Paxlux. It's a sequel to the other Supernatural story I did a while back. It's a lovely fic. As a reader, I think my favorite bits were the occasional paragraphs where Sam would reflect on Dean's awesomeness... because they pinged pretty hard on the sort of reasons that *I* love the character, too, so those bits felt very "honest". "Once More with Feeling" and all that. :)

I've been "active" (for certain values of that term) in podfic for about four years now, but I somehow keep failing to participate in amplificathon.   I was feeling bound-and-determined to get SOMETHING posted during the 'thon this year, and while I didn't manage the three that I was originally planning, I've at least got ONE in under the wire. :)

I pimped this story back on one of my snowflake posts, here: http://niko.dreamwidth.org/65343.html  and after spending... way more time with it than I should have needed for a fifteen-minute podfic, I still love it dearly. :)

Probably ought to break this out into a couple posts because it got long, but *shrug*  :).

Day 2 - Post recs for fanworks I did not create

Part of the aim with this was a suggestion to choose lesser-known works, which for me tends to mean that I stumbled across the work on my own long after it was posted and my first reaction was "Why have I not seen this before?!?"  Very unscientific approach, and patently flawed in a few of these cases, but I'm sticking with it. :)

Yo!

I haven't posted anything in ages, and the [community profile] snowflake_challenge going around seems fun, so here's me jumping in.  I kinda started writing this on Day 8 and was going to work backwards, but then I got distracted and it's now Day 14, so... here's Day 8 and Day 7, and I'll probably jump around from there.   :P

I seem to be on a trend of doing podfic in threes.   Posted a couple more the last few days.

The dashboard melted (but we still had the radio) by storm_petrel    (The Losers)
Story #2 in my "pretty boys passing out" triptych I mentioned working on a while back.  :)  Beautiful character voice to the writing, and a some sections of a more sarcastic, light-hearted tone than most of what I've done.  (I did end up backing down on some of my more manic takes, though.  I was tending to go way over the top at first.  Hopefully the final version doesn't STILL come off as over-the-top.  :P)

Speaking of over-the-top-ness, this one's... kind of... "experimental", maybe?  I saw this story on the avengerkink community, and it really moved me.  It's totally my cup of tea, anyway, with the angst and the nice hurt/comfort-y conclusion... but I *also* have this podfic bingo card that has a "Read Sadly" square.  I was on a bit of a crying jag the other night, and it popped into my head "Hey, I should go read something sadly instead of sitting here bawling my eyes out" and this story seemed appropriate.  ;)   It's kind of a slow build to Steve having a bit of a breakdown, and toward the end, I just let myself chew the scenery a bit.  It's not my third "pretty boys passing out" fic, but I wanted to post it before I could second-guess myself and water it down.
