Soooo... I maaaaaay have jinxed myself somewhat by saying that I hadn't had anything replace Mag7 in terms of epic feels.
I started DVR-ing the Young Justice cartoon a couple weeks ago, and have been kinda intrigued by Nightwing (because he's hot ;) ). He hasn't really been a focal character of the cartoon episodes I've watched, but I started poking around for more background on him (I knew he was Dick Grayson/former-Robin, but not a lot about Nightwing, in particular) and came across THIS VIDEO on festivids that is more about Jason Todd, but left me breathless with what a punch-in-the-gut the Batman & Robin(s) relationship(s) can be, and I'm suddenly eating/breathing/sleeping Dick Grayson/Nightwing. The relationships going on with adult-Dick have that great "history" aspect I love - especially the complication of his relationship with Batman/Bruce - the father/mentor/partner with the adult-son/former-student who wants to be an equal, but will always crave that special approval and encouragement. There's also the great (and differing) big brother relationship with the other Robins. Dick's protectiveness to them is uber-yummy. :) Of all the comics characters and 'ships I've dabbled in in the past, none of them have really made me pay much attention to the actual COMICS... but this time around, I'm smitten enough that I think I may start following the Nightwing comic, at the very least. Should be interesting.
(But seriously, that vid is amazing. *AWE-STRUCK*)
In other news, I actually guess there's been a trend of "family" stuff for me lately.
Uncharted: I finally played Uncharted 3 recently because it came with the PS3 I got for Christmas (never played the first two). I absolutely LOOOOOVED the characters. I didn't realize how much like a real movie these played out as, with the witty banter and plot twists and turns. This third game, in particular, has flashbacks to how the main character, Nathan Drake, met his partner, Victor Sullivan (Sully) when Nate was a young street kid planning to steel an artifact and Sully saved him when he got in over his head. Again, there's that cool not-quite-father/son relationship vibe of Sully having basically raised Nate, and Nate now being an adult and the two working side-by-side and trusting each other. I'm REALLY impressed with how much of that they worked into the story, along with several other really fun crewmates. I'm looking forward to going back to the first two games and seeing what I missed with these characters. :)
Numb3rs: I never paid any attention to this series when it first aired, but a tv station has started running it from the beginning, and I'm quite enjoying it. It's mostly just a procedural, but the semi-angsty brothers thing makes it fun. It also kinda brings home how my interests in characters have changed over the years. Once upon a time, I'm sure I'd have been most interested in Charlie, with his somewhat naive, innocent vibe and the mop top curly hair... but I'm really finding Don, the tougher FBI-agent older brother more compelling. (aka I want me some whump ;) )
