Yo!

I haven't posted anything in ages, and the [community profile] snowflake_challenge going around seems fun, so here's me jumping in.  I kinda started writing this on Day 8 and was going to work backwards, but then I got distracted and it's now Day 14, so... here's Day 8 and Day 7, and I'll probably jump around from there.   :P

Day 8.  Talk about setting a fannish goal

Just got back from two weeks mostly-away-from-civilization and feeling a bit disconnected from all the things that were occupying my thoughts before I left, so here's some randomicity to kick-start my brain a bit.

I did this once before, and it was fun, so:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

[livejournal.com profile] tygermama   gave me "N".  My N-songs to choose from were somewhat slim, but fairly representative of my tastes (except there was no theater music worth sharing).

I'm feeling the urge to post, but have nothing interesting to say, so here's a rather pointless meme.  I guess there's some insight into my psyche here or something?  I don't go back and re-watch things very often, so the replay value and/or nostalgia factor has to be pretty strong for me to buy a live-action series to keep.  ( Anime's a different story. ^_^ )

List all of the television shows you have on DVD, no matter how obscure or embarrassing. Even if you only own one season, list it! Let's see who has what!

(Complete, unless otherwise specified)

Andromeda, Seasons 1-2 Complete, Season 3 Partial
Anne of Green Gables (all 3 miniseries - though the last one was a disappointment )
Battlestar Galactica (Original Series)
Beastmaster
Buffy, the Vampire Slayer - seasons 1-3
Earth 2
Faerie Tale Theatre  (My 7-year-old niece *LOVES* these )
Firefly
Highlander - Seasons 1-5
Magnificent Seven
Pride & Prejudice (miniseries)
The Sentinel, Season 1  (*sob* wish the rest was available)
Stargate: Atlantis
Stargate: SG-1, Seasons 1-4
Supernatural, Seasons 1-4
Tales of the Gold Monkey (on pre-order! Yay!)
Wild Wild West

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] vr2lbast ...

Sorry, I got a bit rambly, but it seemed silly to get into editing, noise reduction, etc. for a silly little meme. :)

It's meme-week for me, apparently. :)  From [livejournal.com profile] tygermama ...

- list 7 habits/quirks/facts
- tag 7 people to do the same
- don't tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag 'whoever wants to do it'

I, uh.... don't have seven people to tag, so I'm skipping that part. :)

From [livejournal.com profile] jojosimco ...

Audience participation is optional but the mememememe is as follows:

1. Reply to this post saying "ME! ME! ME!", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

My icons are all pretty straightforward because I mostly make them myself as a need arises.  They also tend to be anime-based, because anime is a helluva lot easier to get a decent icon by doing a simple crop-and-resize, which is about the limit of my graphical abilities. :)

I'm slow getting my songs up on this, but a meme from [livejournal.com profile] vr2lbast . :-)

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.(only if you feel like it)
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions as your cut.

I was really surprised how few "M" songs I had on the hard drive.  I ended up with an interesting cross-section of my tastes, though:

1.  Moscow Song - Kris Delmhorst
My first love in music is folksy singer-songwriter stuff.  This song made me fall in love with Kris Delmhorst.

2.  Makovienka (Poppy Girl) - Sui Vesan
I'm only a casual listener of world music, but I seem to respond particularly well to music from Eastern Europe.  I'm mostly Slovak by ancestry, so maybe it's genetic. :)

3.  Mix Tape - Jim's Big Ego
Just a song that's *too* appropriate to pass up when sharing music. :)

4.  Mambaleo - Elissa
One of my all-time favorite anime AMV's is done to this song.  I have a weakness for pure, unrepentant *fun*.

5.  Mr. Hopalong Heartbreak - Lauren Kennedy
This song is from the musical version of "Urban Cowboy".   It's really fun to belt out with after a pissy day.

A zip of the music is here.

Looks like this was going around a couple months ago, now, but hey...I'm slow. :)

This is going to reveal how sad I am because there are quite a few big name shows that I haven't seen completely...

There are some titles I was wishing were on this list...maybe I'll come up with my own "Top 100 Anime" one of these days, just to see if I can. :)

I don't usually do these "going around" things, but saw this on Rommie's and it's too fun an idea to pass up.

Destructions:

1. Take five (random!) books off your bookshelf.
2. Book #1 -- first sentence
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph

Despite what the church claimed and the people believed, this was still a Kingdom born of younger sons, the land-hungry and the dispossessed. Arris slipped of his last undergarment and began to ease himself into the bath. The trees, freed of their weight of snow, were bowed down by raindrops. "Araxie is waiting for you in the next room," Sivorn said quietly. It was too late in the day to get passage on a caravan, so they spent the night at Arad's house, but by morning they were at the docks, and ready to leave the dust of the city behind them.

It makes sense if you tilt your head a little, I think...and it's cool how the imagery kinda works itself out: the bath, the raindrops, leaving the dust of the city behind. Oooo...and the first sentence comes from a book called "The Devil in the DUST"! Freaky. :) The line about raindrops really ought to be at the end, though.

The books:
1. The Devil in the Dust (Chaz Brenchley)
2. Realm of the Gods (Catherine Cooke)
3. Nine Layers of Sky (Liz Williams)
4. King Kelson's Bride (Katherine Kurtz)
5. City of Bones (Martha Wells)
