Long reviewy ramble when I should be working...

Current Listening:
Katie Sawicki - For the Quiet

Really enjoying this CD a lot.  She came up on CD Baby when I was searching for Kris Delmhorst's new CD, and it's one of the better "if you like X, you'll also like Y" finds any website has every given me. :)  She's a bit mumblier than Kris D, and her lyrics are a bit...I dunno, vaguer(?)...like I'm not quite sure what most of the songs are about.  But overall, it's a very close match.  Three of the songs are already taking turns running through my head after just a couple listens, and the rest of the CD has a certain "This is really gonna grow on me" vibe.  Yay!  :)

Current Reading:
Dark of the Gods - P.C. Hodgell

This is an edition that combines two books into one volume, and I've now completed one of the books plus an additional short story, and honestly, it's not doing much for me.  Maybe I'm overused to more verbose work or something, but Hodgell's writing feels very sparse to me, like a lot of events are just skimmed over.  There was a key player in the first book that I barely even noticed his first few scenes and when it became clear how important he was going to be to the story, I literally had no memory of him even being introduced.  And the book is filled with moments that we're supposed to understand have huge emotional consequences, but barely a sentence is devoted to them.

On one hand, it's been an interesting exercise, as it's forced me to slow down my reading quite a bit to really digest each sentence.  But on the other, it's not exactly a style that has allowed me to connect with the characters to the extent I need to be really involved in the story.

Current Watching:

See previous post about Berserk.  Judeau owns my soul right now.  Also recently watched Jin-Roh for the first time.  Very interesting film.  Very disturbing and violent imagery, but a case where I thought the massive violence was making a real point beyond gratuitous blood and gore.  I need to see it again, I think, to get everything out of it.  I was left a bit confused in the end as to who all the players were.  Think I'll try to write up a review of this one for Jumpgate and/or ExIsle.

Looking forward to the arrival of the SG-1 and SG:A next week.  I've gone too long without my snarky McKay fix.

Currently working on Macross Vol. 4 review for AOD.  Happy to finally get to Miriya's real arrival.  The Miriya/Max stuff was always my favorite. :)

Oh, also picked up the Sentinel and Wild Wild West box sets from the DDD sale.  Haven't popped them in yet, but I can't wait to do so!  Life sucks right now, time-wise.

Miscellaneous Life Stuff:

The first Anime Meetup went pretty well!  Only four people total (including me & Jon), but I think we had a nice chat and the 2 gals who came both seemed very nice.  We're getting together next weekend to actually watch some anime.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what shows and interests other people bring to the table, since we seem to have a nice variety of folks interested, overall.
