OK! Going with a bit of a whumpy one today. :)

Moment: Souta vs. Zaftig Android
Warning? General plot spoilers for Episode 16, but it's mostly standalone.
Setup: Real Drive is a series that's kind of a cyberpunk slice-of-life. It has androids and cyberbrains and all the technology of a near-future cyberpunk, but the setting and story focus tends to be a little more laidback and deal with more humdrum day-to-day complications of living in this sort of world. (There's one great episode where the whole story is kind of an ode to how, even in a future where entire volumes of data could be consumed in a quick download into a cyberbrain, to have the experience of actually *reading a book* page by page, would be irreplaceable. It's cool.)
Anyway, our hero (for purposes of this clip) is Souta Aoi, and he's been doing some undercover investigating. The bad guys figure out who he is and send an enforcer to rough him up. She's an android who's been programmed with an A.I. called "Iron Schwartz" that has a thing for dislocating the limbs of his/her/its opponents.
The adult woman on the ground at the beginning of the clip is an android, too (apparently the same model as bad android, though I don't remember if they spell that out). She's just fought the bad android and lost. Souta has kind of a thing for her, and it's been frustrating him because he can't bring himself to deliver the final blow when he's sparring with her due to subconsciously seeing her as a real woman.
(This clip doesn't have subtitles, but none of the spoken bits are vital.)
The Scene:
Commentary:
A) I am a raging, unrepentant hurt/comfort fangirl, so... extended whumping on my favorite character will always be a MASSIVE +1. And I do *adore* Souta. Other people can have their long-haired, exotic bishies... I always fall for the "generic Japanese boy-next-door" model. ^_^
B) From a more more objective angle, I think this is quite a good and different from the usual anime fight scene. There's something meatier and "real" about it than most. The android may be super-powered and throw Souta around like a ragdoll, but you can feel the weight and solidity of her- the sense of gravity... y'know... actually existing. :) And the choreography and pacing seem more real than normal, too. You can tell that they took time to think through the holds and how someone would need to move to get out of them, plus building in moments of breathing room to give the puny human a little time to rally. I'm a terrible judge of animation quality, but with the amount of movement going on, I'll hazard that it's at least above average there, too?
C) The little touches are great. The funny bit where Souta's down, and the two surfer dudes try to brave up 'cause they're next, but she couldn't care less about them. The "Do Not Murder" thing, with her safeguards kicking in to keep him from drowning even while she's trying to beat the crap out of him. Holon's "tear". I don't often get uber-"shippy" about pairings, but if Real Drive had a fandom, I would be first in line for some Souta/Holon love. :)
