A meme from Miz [livejournal.com profile] dj_aida .  :)

- Comment with "Hit me!"
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people.

My Questions:
1. What is the attraction of podfic for you?
2. Who is your absolute favorite characters in all the fandoms you follow?
3. What is your favorite dish?
4. Where in the world would you most like to live?
5. What fictional character are you most like?

1.  What is the attraction of podfic for you?
It's kind of a mish-mash of several different attractions.  I've always loved reading aloud.  Growing up, I tended to read aloud for my own enjoyment, instead of just reading quietly to myself.  (It was always embarrassing when someone caught me at it. ^_^ )   I think it helps me connect with the material better, and it's just *fun*.  There's a sort of creative impulse to it, I guess - the "acting" and all that.

On the fandom side of things, I also love that podfic gives me a way to "recognize" stories and authors and fandoms that have meant something to me.  It's a unique sort of way to pimp a fandom or story.  I think the big reason that I jumped in when I did was that I was so head-over-heels in love with Mag7 and discovering 10+ years worth of amazing stories... and podfic gave me a way to way to wave a flag around and go "Hey! Remember this older fandom?  It still ROCKS!"  :)

2. Who is your absolute favorite characters in all the fandoms you follow?
Sorry to go with an anime reference, but there's not really much contest.  Ken Hidaka of Weiss Kreuz.  He's stayed in my head the longest and at this point, I'm so attached to my personal fanon for the character that, if I were prone to mental issues, I'd probably be one of those crazy "I'm married to a fictional character" ladies.  :)

I think what really clicks for me with Ken is that his *canon* character arc is a lot broader than most angsty-pretty-boy characters ever really get.  I have no idea whether it is intentionally awesome (probably not) or even how much of it is just me reading between the lines... but he starts out as this moderately-angsty-but-good-natured-and-cheerful character, goes into a downward spiral to point where he's clinging to sanity by his fingertips... and then has this lovely redemptive period and comes out the other end as someone who's back to being cheerful and just seems really comfortable in his own skin (while stilling having a bit of a feral edge occasionally.)   There's just so many different angles to play with, depending on what part of canon you focus on.   I could go on for days.  ^_^

(For the record, Ezra is an easy second place... the two of them are miles ahead of the competition.)

3. What is your favorite dish?
Long-term... probably simple old Macaroni & Cheese.  Any variety - from the cheap stuff that comes out of a box to fancy ones with lobster or exotic cheeses... if it involves elbow macaroni and cheese, I'm there. :)

I'm also having a bit of an obsession with crispy tofu right now.  I really love this recipe (though I leave the chorizo out) over soba noodles or brown rice.

4. Where in the world would you most like to live?
Oh, that's always hard because I've lived in the same place my whole life, with lots of family in the immediate area.  It's hard to even imagine life somewhere else.  If it could be just a short-term thing, I'd love to try living in London or Paris for a year... someplace with easy access to a lot of the theater and culture things I miss out on where I live now.  But I don't think that city life would appeal long-term.   I'd also love to try living up in Michigan where I go on vacation every year, but they have harsher winters than we get, so I'd probably get sick of that pretty quick.
5. What fictional character are you most like?
Ugh, I always hate this sort of question. ;)  After stewing on it overnight, I think I'm going to go with Cinderella from the musical "Into the Woods".  (Again, sorry for obscure references. ^_^)    She's a bit prone to overthinking things and frets a bit over decisions...  but she's generally sensible and her heart's in the right place.

People usually just dismiss it or turn it into a joke and say, Oh, no macaroni for me, I had quite enough in the war, haha. We tell jokes about ourselves and appreciate dark humor. Jokes about jovial, gullible, stoopid Bosnians are quite common in the region. :D (So are jokes about lazy Montenegrins, hard working Herzegovinians and their fierce women - in fact, there's one that talks about how wives hide money from their husbands so they don't spend it all away: "Montenegrins hide it under the shovel, Bosnians put it in a book, and Herzegovinians put it on the table and and say, I dare him to try and take it!")

I'll go now and answer the questions in the original post.
