1. Burn - Tina Arena
This song has always pinged for me as kind of a meta-y love song from fandom to the characters who capture our hearts and who we put through hell. :)
I'll lay down on your bed of coals
Offer up my heart and soul
But in return, I want you to burn
Burn for me baby
Like a candle in my night
[....]
Laugh for me, cry for me
Pray for me, lie for me
Live for me, die for me
I want you to burn
2. She Turns Me On - Jim's Big Ego
I originally pinged on this with the women of Andromeda, but it's a fun, boppy song for any kick-ass gal - especially one with a guy who's a bit out of his league. (Come to think of it, Rock & Revy from Black Lagoon come to mind, too ^_^ )
She's just a hundred twenty pounds
and just five foot five
But when it's one on one I just try to survive
I get flipped on my back
She caught be by surprise
and I'm looking up into her big brown eyes
Oooh, baby she turns me on
3. Strong Enough - Jess Klein
Just really evokes Buffy to me. Some of the lines are practically a direct fit.
Though I'm only twenty-three - a virtual baby
A gypsy once told me I got a very old soul
To carry the helpless through all these lifetimes
Now I want a lover who is already whole
I'm strong enough, I'm strong enough
to walk alone, walk alone
and smart enough, Lord, to know it too
I'm strong enough, I'm strong enough
And there's only one kind of love
That I would ever want from you
The kind that helps me do what I gotta do
4. Kick Drum Heart - Avett Brothers
The words aren't a great fit, but I usually hear this as a Terriers song. It's such an irresistably infectious song, with the cool staccato stuttery bits, that I think it'd make a great faster-paced vid for a variety of fandoms.
My my heart like a kick drum
My my heart like a kick drum
My my heart like a kick drum
My my love like a voice
5. The Needle and the Damage Done - Laura Marling (Or possibly her Blues Run the Game)
Her smoky voice fits the noir-ish, down-and-out tone of Terriers to an absolute "T". Needle, in particular, evokes Hank's character arc for me - the death of Mickey and his own struggles with addiction. The whole "anywhere I wander" element of Blues isn't quite as on-the-nose, but the core theme is appropriate.
I've seen the needle
and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie's
like a settin' sun.
6. Prince Charming - Jim's Big Ego
Probably a bit too matchy in some parts and not matchy enough in others to work for the obvious choice (Tangled)? But I'd like to see how that would work out - either for Tangled, or just a combination of Disney princesses being proactive. Barring that, the sentiment would work nice for any number of strong female characters - especially sword-wielding ones.
You're gonna have to be your own Prince Charming
You're gonna have to ride your own stallion
You're gonna have to find your own castle
You're gonna have to raise your own steel.
7. Someone to Fall Back On - Jason Robert Brown (Ally Michalka version)
I've barely seen a single episode of Merlin, but somehow I really want to see an Arthur/Merlin vid to this song. Not sure the fannish osmosis is giving me accurate vibes in respect to their relationship, but wth. :)
I am no prince. I am no saint.
I am not anyone's wildest dream.
But I can stand behind, and be someone to fall back on.
...
You look at me like me like I don't make sense
Like a waste of time
Like it serves no purpose.
...
I've been alone. I'd rather be...
The half of us. The least of you. The best of me.
