Two more series caught up with, and only two to go. Woot! :)
Allison to Lillia - Eps. 1-5
I was really looking forward to this series, but I'm afraid it's hitting my "Meh" button. There's nothing terrible about it, particularly - except that I strongly disagree with using a woman to voice Wil - but for a show that's based on a 1930s-ish adventure sort of format, the adventure in this is quite bland and uninvolving. Kinda on par with the Hardy Boys in the amount of actual danger you feel the characters are in. I'll keep watching, since I want to see how they bring Lillia into the mix, but it's not revving my gears all that much.
RD Senno Chosashitsu (aka "Real Drive") - Eps. 1-4
Gotta cut to the chase on this one. My main reason for really liking this show is him:

He's hot, he kicks ass, he *cooks*, and he has the whole "big brother watching out for his little sister" thing going for him. Second character this season that I'm crushing on partially because he wears an apron. :) Does "domesticity" count as a kink? :)
OK, so besides Souta, the show itself is quite interesting. The first few episodes were a little stingy with the world-building, so I was getting frustrated with not understanding half of what was going on, but things seem to have settled down a bit in that regard. I still don't *quite* get the Metal's role in this world, but I've got enough to work with now. Character-wise, there's a definite novelty in having a main character who's an octogenarian, and the rest of the cast fills out the roster nicely. Plotwise, it's still too early to tell what direction this will go, but since this is one of the few shows this season that's actually getting a full 26 episodes, I'm looking forward to sitting back and letting things simmer for a while before they kick off any major events.
I guess the other thing to mention about the show is the rather distinctive character-designs for the main female cast members. Both 15-year-old Minamo and android security-bot Holon have a rather Rubenesque physique that immediately jumps out as quite different from the average anime girl (or girl-on-television, period, for that matter.) I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, I like the characters a lot. I think the designs are adorable, and it's refreshing to see a show in any medium where a character can be attractive and kick some serious ass while also having some meat on her bones. But on the other hand, the amount of fan service on display so far is a bit off-putting. When I first saw Minamo on-screen, my first thought wasn't "oh how refreshing - a plump heroine"... it was that she looked like she was modeled after a blow-up doll, and within 15 seconds, they were throwing panty-shots around and generally doing everything they could to scream "Look, she's all round and curvy, don't you want to wank off to her?" Lord knows I don't have any objections to watching a show for attractive characters (see my comments about Minamo's brother up above) but there's a blatant fetishism and objectification to how they introduced these characters that kinda creeps me out. I think in this case the "kick-ass" aspect of the characters is going to help even things out, but I wish it didn't *have* to.
