I've been in a mode of planning my anime conventioning for this year, and so far I only have firm plans for AnimeUSA in November.

So, I see THIS come across ANN:

Providence Anime Conference: North America's only 21+ Anime Convention
[...]Some of the convention's features will include a keynote address instead of an opening ceremony, a costume fashion show, rather than a contest, and live-action programming based around professional and academic panels. [...]

Vendors looking to participate in the convention will be instructed to bring items that are not normally available at stores or online, while entries for PAC's cosplay skit exhibition will be pre-screened to ensure high quality.

Rhode Island is a little farther than I'd usually go for a con, but at least it's in my half of the country instead of out in California. For a chance to have an anime con that isn't swarming with teens behaving like they've never been let out of their cages before, I'd have booked a plane ticket in a hot minute. That thing about vendors being instructed to bring stuff that's not easily available... pure gold. One of my biggest gripes about the proliferation of the con universe has been the pointlessness of the dealer's room - aisles and aisles full of vendors who all got their stock from the same wholesale distributor, and the focus completely on providing cheezy trinkets-and-trash that the kiddies can afford, rather than offering anything really unique or quality.

So... an anime con *totally* pertinent to my interests, something that gets me jazzed to no end, in a year when I'll have the money and vacation time to attend.

So, the dates?

Oct. 3-5

AKA "The same weekend as Con on the Cob."

Which I am obligated to staff.
