Back when the LOTR movies and Harry Potter books/movies were making fantasy cool again, I was feeling a bit bitchy that it was only children's books that were getting the "rush to copycat" love.  It seemed like lots of YA fantasy was suddenly getting adaptations while the adult shelves were completely ignored.

It's taken a while, but it's nice to see that changing a bit.

We have Goodkind's new series (I'm not a fan of his books, and none of the promotional material I've seen for the show sparks my interest, so I'm skipping this one), news today that HBO has reached the "making a pilot" stage for ASOIAF, and apparently Columbia bought a spec script for a Deryni movie.  (That latter strikes me as the most unusual/scary.  So much of the allure of the books is on the weighty worldbuilding and political stuff.  I'm afraid to see what a movie studio would do to it.   These "classics-only-to-fantasy-readers" type books are most at risk for huge tinkering, if the fate of the "Dark is Rising" movie was any indication.)    I think I also heard a while back that things were moving forward on a Shanarra project?

Personally, I'd like to see someone give Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser a look.  Their sword & sorcery-style adventures would be hella cinematic, I bet.
