Well, I took the plunge and forked out the 20 bucks for a paid account. Yay for extra iconage. :)
In other news, I used Celga to pick up a few doujinshi from Yahoo! Auctions Japan last week. Since then, I can't seem to stop digging through the listings there going "Oh! I want that! And that! And that!" It's pretty damn dangerous, really. It's easy to just look at the yen prices and think how cheap it is, forgetting all the Celga fees on top of it. I won one doujin with a bid of 100 yen (less than a dollar). Final cost to me came to $12 - not including shipping to the U.S. Not horrific, considering how much I'd pay for a similar item from JPQueen or at a convention (and with far less variety to choose from), but it's still a bit of a sticker shock.
Trying to convince myself to participate in the
yuletide fic exchange, but the more I think about it, the less I think I can do it. Maybe if I had fannish friends to brainstorm with and kick my ass in gear, but on my own, I just don't see myself able to come up with an idea for a fic and execute it in the time available. Which is a bummer, because I am the queen of falling in love with mini-fandoms, so this would be right up my alley otherwise. *mope*
Speaking of which, Carol Berg continues to be one of my heroes in terms of books that hit my fannish buttons. Book 3 of the "Bridge of D'Arnath" was the best yet in this series, and I'm looking forward to what she does with the fourth.
