WIP Amnesty #1

I've been poking around my hard drive for things that merit being posted for wip_amnesty  week, and while I've got a ton of WIPs that will never go anywhere, most of them are more sort of stream-of-conscious overviews than actual attempts at fic, so there's not much in a postable state this time around.

I did come across a couple things, though.  
 

First up: About 90 seconds of Ken-centric Weiss Kreuz music video, set to "Losing My Religion".  It's been sitting on my hard drive for *SIX* years.  I feel so old.  :(

This was my first (and only) attempt at vidding, so it was never going to be all that great, but I still like the concept and think it could make a good vid.  There are a lot of bits in the song that just speak to Ken's arc for me - the loss of innocence ('losing my religion') and the way he latches onto Aya ('trying to keep up with you') while Aya's always slightly ahead of him on the curve.

I wanted the second verse to segue into Gluhen - there are some really obvious clips to pull in there - but I was afraid that the shift in character designs would make it unworkable and I didn't have a backup plan to fill the rest of the video if that didn't work, so I kept putting it off.  (If the proof-of-concept had worked out, I also would have gotten a clean rip of the videos to get rid of the fansubs that clutter up the current vid.  ^_^ )

I never want to believe that my WIPs are really dead, even when I forget they exist (for a while).

Personally, I don't think the shift in character design would have made the video unworkable - or at least not unviewable as I would not have been doing any of the work - but I do now how such uncertainties can drown a project :x

I enjoyed this clip though. I was, oddly enough, wondering just the other day why, in all my time, I had yet to see a Ken video made with that song XD The Verbrechen und Strafe sequence seemed to work particularly well.

Hee, that's so funny that you thought of it recently, too. :) Once I noticed the Ken-vibe of it, I can't hear the song anymore without it being *about* him.

On rewatching, I was pleasantly surprised by that Verbrechen/Strafe sequence, too... the music felt like it was in time to the clash of the weapons or something. I don't think I planned it that way...

(I'm also insanely fond of the gimmicky little transition to flashback!Ken at "that's me in the corner". That shot of the ball whizzing past him is probably one of my favorite animation moments in the series.)

The soccer shot played quite well in the vid too. For an anime that had its share of really crappy artwork, that one scene was definitely one of the moments that made up for it. Hell, the ball flew by him so closely, it whipped the sweat off his brow. It was an intense moment.

Oh, speaking of WIP's, I was re-reading Jazz Memory recently...

Have you ever posted the earlier story that you mentioned it's a continuation of?

And actually, while I'm here, how do you feel about podfic of your stories? For some reason, reading for anime/manga fandoms feels more daunting than live-action TV, but I definitely want to get more Weiss podfic out there at some point. :)

I have not. It's a rather long story and I wanted to finish it before putting it up, but I hit a rather discouraging moment and didn't finish it (although I don't want to give up on it, I'm clingy that way). After I get through my current class, I should have another look at some of my WIPs.


I am very flattered that you should ask about my stories and don't mind them being recorded. Although if any are done, I'll probably want to hear them so I can giggle self-consciously. XD

Yay! Thank you! :) I'll definitely run it by you when it's done. It doesn't feel right posting without giving the author a chance to yell at me about anything that's too cringeworthy. I'm guessing I'm going to sound painfully cheezy trying to read certain Japanese and/or German words naturally.

And LOL about the WIP. Fingers crossed that it works out at some point. It sounds interesting, assuming it's the incident that Crawford references in Jazz Memory. :)
