Hee! Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It's great to hear that the dialogue worked for you. I really enjoy the "acting" element of doing podfic, and I loooove all the snarky fun in this story, but I fretted a lot over keeping Rodney, in particular, from going too shrill and over-the-top. :)
Podfic_Lover suggested the phone effect and pointed me in the direction of the right filter. It's the "Glame Bandpass Filter" tool in Audacity. There are two main settings in that tool. I set those to 9646 / 17106 for the phone calls. I think I tweaked the numbers a bit for radio chatter, to make it sound different from the phone calls, but it probably wasn't a noticable difference in the long run.
>>sadly I'm not familiar with the Magnificent 7, though maybe I just need a crash course
*grin* If I get you to check out Mag7 as a result of having podfic out there for it, then my mission is accomplished. ;)
I think "Cold Hard Cash" would be listenable without knowing too much about the show. It's a fairly standalone story, mainly uses only three of the seven, and gives you enough information to get the gist of who they are and how they interact. "Running" is a bit more of a pure hurt/comfort-fic, and I'm not sure how that sort of story goes over if you're not already invested in the characters.
HERE (http://whywastewords.livejournal.com/88353.html) is a picspam that gives a good overview of the whole show. And here are a couple vids that focus on the three main characters in "Cold Hard Cash", as a taste of how they act: Chris (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNE_KXQBOME), Ezra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dlb0-w8SdII), Buck (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrjY4WJNSqE).
Heh... sorry for the long reply. Thanks again for letting me know you enjoyed The Kids are Alright. I really appreciate it!
Re: The Kids are Alright podfic = excellent!
