Missing scene with a twinge of hurt/comfort-y vibe. One Piece fic is too hard. :)

(Missing some lead-up about Nami not really knowing how tough the trip to get her to Doctorine really was.)

She did not, in fact, think anything of their trek until she was awoken much too early the next morning to the sounds of a ruckus from the men's quarters. Yawning, Nami stepped over a grumbling Vivi and poked her head out the door.

"Oi! Quiet down out here!"

She blinked across the deck, surprised to see Chopper in his more imposing form standing in the entrance to the men's quarters. Her view inside was blocked. Curious now, she headed over, and peered around Chopper's bulk to see Sanji facing him, already coifed for the day, fuming.

"I said let me out, you stupid reindeer!"

"No!"

Sanji threw himself against Chopper, pushing ineffectually.

"I have to make breakfast for..."

Nami slid herself under Chopper's arm to get into the room, arriving on cue. Sanji stopped his efforts to take time to fawn over her.

"...oh, Nami-san! I'm so sorry to be late with breakfast. It will be right up. I have something wonderful planned for you today."

"What's going on here?" Nami asked, glancing between Chopper, Sanji, and the other men who had been watching the conflict from their berths, not seeming inclined to get involved.

"This...MONSTER...won't - OW! - let me out!" Sanji informed her indignantly.

Chopper nodded. "He has to rest, Nami-san. Those kinds of injuries take a long time to heal."

Nami looked sharply back at Sanji, who seemed none the worse for wear and was blustering that he was fine.

"I thought Doctorine didn't let any patients go who weren't recovered?" She asked lightly, but her eyes didn't leave Sanji. The cook, unnaturally uncomfortable under her gaze, nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! Exactly right, Nami-san!"

Some of the surety seemed to go out of Chopper, and he kicked the floor hesitantly, a gesture that was already familiar in his smaller form. "But...she knew that I'd be here." He pointed out tentatively.

Which was a point. Nami sighed, and was about to try another approach when...

"Sanji." Everyone looked around in surprise to Luffy, who was sitting up in his hammock, swinging slightly. "Chopper's our doctor. You should do what he says."

His expression is unnaturally serious, his eyes on Sanji showing some emotion Nami has only seen once before. His tone has an unfamiliar note to it that Nami recognizes instinctively as a captain ordering his crew. Sanji doesn't give up without a fight.

"There won't be breakfast..." He warns. Luffy blinks, once.

"We'll manage."

And this, more than anything, convinces Nami to look again at Sanji. The cook has given up and in the few steps between the door and his bunk - in the way he gingerly eases himself back into the hammock, she sees that all is not as well with Sanji as she had thought. Luffy sees it, too - and the others, but it hurts Luffy, she can tell.
