Recent Randomness

Theater:
Shazbat!  I had finally gotten my plans finalized for a quick trip to NYC to see [title of show] in November... and they just announced they're closing October 12.  :-(   I'm so very, very, very disappointed.  [tos] is one of my "OMG! WANT TO SEE IT!" shows, and missing it is a big letdown.

At least I'll save some money, I guess.  2 nights in a Broadway-area hotel for 3 people was averaging about $600/night.  (Ugh.)

Anime:
I haven't been watching much lately, actually.  Still liking Real Drive a lot, as it goes into it's final episode.  I would love to get into the heads of its creators and find out what their goals were with this series.  It's so idiosyncratic.  I love the idea of this balance between cyberpunkish sci-fi concepts and slice-of-life simplicity, and I adore the individual episodes.  But as a unified, coherent series, they never really committed to a solid throughline.

Video Games:
I started playing Persona 3 back in June, and I *finally* finished it last week.  The game itself was not particularly great, imo.  The characters are fun (Akihiro/Shinjiro slashiness FTW!), but the gameplay was so repetitive.  There *is* a definite appeal for me as a "completeness" freak, though.  I ended up taking much, much longer than necessary to complete the game just because I got obsessive about getting as high a percentage of fused monsters as humanly possible, and I'm actually rushing through the game *again* right now to try to max out all the Social Links.

In other game news, I am *so* ridiculously excited that there's a new Suikoden game in the works.  A lot of people are disappointed in what look like fairly "generic" characters and gameplay that looks like it borrows some stuff from Rhapsodia / Suikoden Tactics, but it's SUIKODEN, baby.  My only fear is that they'll pull something stupid and decide to set this in an entirely new world instead of following the franchise tradition of having all the games set in a persistent gameworld.  *fingers crossed*

Fannish Stuff:
I submitted my first ever prompts to the SpringKink fic community for their current go-round.  It'll be interesting to see if they get picked.  They are sort of random. :)

I'm finally getting around to reading Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint.  I knew that it had slashy goodness, but I was unprepared for how truly scrumptious her slashy boys would be.  Because of the "fantasy of manners" moniker and the association between Kushner & Delia Sherman, I was expecting the writing style to be somewhat similar to Sherman's "Porcelain Dove" - somewhat dense and formal.  It's much more of a contemporary fantasy style, instead, and the characters just sparkle with their witty, snarky love. :-)
